I chose to read these two poems by Jane Kenyon before I knew it would snow.
The poems are “Waking in January Before Dawn” and “11,” the second one Jane translated from Russian and was originally written by the poet Anna Akhmatova.
I never used to read about the poets I’d read personally, but I learned today Jane was born in 1947 in Ann Arbor, Michigan and she died in 1995 in New Hampshire. Much of her poetry is centered on everyday life subjects and sensory things, which can add a personal feeling. She mostly wrote in the late 70s until the 90s.
These are from her book, Collected Poems I took off my bookshelf.
